BMX Race pedals: resistance and performance
Like the other bike disciplines:
MTB, Road,
Fixie... the
BMX pedal is a point of contact between the driver and their BMX, just like the
handlebars.
The
BMX pedals are identical to the enduro or downhill MTB pedals, whether flat or automatic.
Indeed, the
pedals must be resistant to absorb the shocks at the reception of a jump.
BMX pedals have wide profiles, i.e the platform (the foot support surface) is important in order to have maximum support on the pedals.
The pedals for the BMX are often made of aluminium or steel. Some high-end models have titanium crank arms in order to weigh even less.
The choice between automatic pedals and flat pedals in BMX is important. Most racing drivers race in automatic pedals in order to have more power at the start and during relaunch.
The flat pedals are more used during training, consequently, or by the youngest riders who don't have the right to ride with automatic pedals because of the regulation.
