Hardtail Frames are very popular among XC Riders for their efficiency and lightness. New materials such as Carbon and Titanium revolutionized the Mountain Bike Industry and new MTB frames have now an exceptional ratio between lightness and rigidity.
A classic MTB Frame is very similar to a Road Frame. It has a diamond design: a Front and a Rear Triangle. The Front Triangle is made of 4 tubes called Top Tube, Down Tube, Seat Tube and Head Tube. Almost all components are in contact with the frame: Seatpost, Forks and Headset, Crankset and Bottom Bracket...
Common hardtail frames are designed for 100mm up to or 130mm travel forks and 3 different wheel diameters: 26"", 27.5"" and 29"" (called 29er).
Hardtail Frames are also designed for gravity disciplines: Dirt or All Mountain. They offer a good rigidity and are very strong.
